The University Bookman

University Bookman“Reviewing Books that Build Culture.” Founded by Russell Kirk in 1960 and currently edited by Gerald J. Russello, The University Bookman is the flagship journal of the Russell Kirk Center and one of America’s premier reviewer publications. In its pages, readers find thoughtful assessments of leading books and authors written by some of today’s most gifted conservative minds.

A culture is perennially in need of renewal. A culture does not survive and prosper merely by being taken for granted; active defense is always required, and imaginative growth, too.

Kirk’s ongoing influence

We recently updated our page tracking people’s responses to the life and thought of Russell Kirk. In 2015, then-Governor Mike Pence noted that he hasn’t “taken a vacation in the last 25 years without a Russell Kirk book under my arm.” Seems like a good idea. (If you have other links to recommend for that page, please contact us.)
